Switching from Marg

Move from Marg with your batches intact.

Parties, items, batch stock and balances move through checked Excel files. Nothing goes live until totals match.

In short

MyRecords has no Marg-specific importer. Your Marg party, item and stock lists move as Excel or CSV files: in the setup wizard, "Another app or Excel" picks the columns of a party or item file for you to confirm and shows a dry run before anything is created. Batches with their expiry dates, batch-wise opening stock, balances and open bills follow through our templates and the Opening balances step. Then the trial balance, party balances and stock by batch go side by side with Marg, and you run both for one to two weeks before you switch.

Before and after

Why people move.

What changes when Marg gives way to one system.

  • Today: The billing software does the counter well, but HR, payroll and leads are all on paper or Excel.

With MyRecords: HR, Payroll, CRM and Support run on the same books as billing and stock.

  • Today: There are three godowns, and no single stock figure from the office.

With MyRecords: Stock is kept by warehouse and by batch, with transfers between them and one Stock balance for all.

  • Today: Each new user or branch means a new licence.

With MyRecords: Users are unlimited. You pay for the modules you switch on, never per person.

  • Today: The owner wants to see dues and stock from a phone.

With MyRecords: It works in any phone browser and installs to the home screen.

5 steps

How the move works.

Every step is checked with you before the next one starts.

  1. Export from Marg

Export parties, items and batch-wise stock as Excel or CSV, with headers in the first row.

  2. Parties and items in

In the setup wizard, choose "Another app or Excel". It picks the columns for you to confirm, runs a dry run, then creates customers, suppliers and items.

    Sales
  3. Batches and opening stock

Batches with their expiry dates through our batch template, then opening stock by item, batch and godown. Ledger balances go in as one opening entry.

    Inventory
  4. Open bills and orders

Unpaid bills come in as opening invoices so ageing is right; open orders follow through templates.

    Accounting
  5. Reconcile and run in parallel

Trial balance, party balances and stock by batch go side by side with Marg. Then both run until three days in a row match with no manual fix.

Your data

What moves, and how.

Item by item, from Marg to MyRecords. Every file is checked before anything is imported.

What moves from Marg, and how

Customers and suppliersFrom an Excel or CSV export, columns picked for you to confirm. GSTIN, PAN, mobile, e-mail and address come along, with opening balances.
ItemsFrom an Excel or CSV export, with code, HSN or SAC, unit, GST rate and prices.
Batches and expiryBatch numbers with expiry dates through our batch template, then opening stock by item, batch and godown on the opening-balance date.
Ledger balancesOne opening entry from your trial balance, matched to the chart of accounts. With the AI Assistant, a PDF or photo of the trial balance fills the lines for you to check.
Open bills and ordersUnpaid bills as opening invoices; open orders through templates.
Older historyStays in Marg by default. History can move through CSV templates at extra cost; there is no Marg-specific converter.

Timeline

Week by week, to go-live.

Nothing goes live until the checks pass and you agree.

Your move to MyRecordsWeek 0 to Cutover
  1. Week 0

Walk your Marg setup. Agree the cutover and opening-balance dates.

  2. Week 1

Parties, items, groups and godowns. Check, fix, import.

  3. Weeks 1–2

Batches, batch-wise opening stock, balances, open bills and orders. An accountant reviews a 20-row sample first.

  4. Week 2

Reconcile with Marg for the opening-balance date.

  5. 1–2 weeks

Parallel run until three consecutive days reconcile with no manual fix.

  6. Cutover

Final export, the gap imported, a go-live backup kept, Marg read-only. Sign-off starts support.

Go-live checklist

6 checks, signed off with you

  • Trial balance — every ledger matches Marg on the opening-balance date.
  • Receivables and payables — totals and ageing, party by party.
  • Stock — quantity and value by item, batch and godown.
  • Expiry dates — a sample of batches checked against Marg.
  • Bank and cash — each account matches its statement.
  • GSTIN present on every registered party — 100%.

6 modules

What you run after the move.

Most businesses like this start here. Every module shares one set of books, one login and one list of customers and items.

Honest fit

When to stay where you are.

We would rather say so now than after you have paid.

Compare the options fairly
  • Marg is built around pharma, FMCG distribution and chemists. If your counter depends on pharma-specific screens and habits, ask for a demo sign-in and try your own counter flow before you decide.
  • If your Marg dealer's support and pricing suit you and you only need billing and stock, staying is reasonable.
  • If you need GSTR-9 or a TCS return from the same software, MyRecords does not prepare these yet.
  • If you want the move done by a ready-made Marg converter, there is none; it goes through checked Excel files.

Questions

Questions people ask

Something else on your mind?

Ask us anything about modules, a quote or moving across. A person from our team replies.

Ask a question
01Is there a direct Marg import?

No. Marg data moves as Excel or CSV files. The setup wizard picks party and item columns for you and shows a dry run; our templates carry batches, batch stock, balances and open bills.

02Do batch numbers and expiry dates come across?

Yes. Batches come in with their expiry dates, then opening stock by item, batch and godown on the opening-balance date. A sample is checked against Marg before go-live.

03Can I undo an import?

A template import that created new records can be undone as a whole from Undo a data import. The wizard's party and item imports show a dry run before anything is created.

04How long does the move take?

About two weeks to a reconciled opening, then one to two weeks of parallel running.

05What does it cost?

Masters and opening balances from our templates are part of the setup fee. Older history is optional, quoted up front by the years you move. See data migration.

06Does MyRecords work offline at the counter?

Point of sale keeps billing offline and queues the bills until the connection is back. The rest of MyRecords needs a connection, except the shop floor, attendance check-in, maintenance visits, asset physical checks and bill photos for "Read a bill".
